After discovering all the joys that bustling Bangkok has to offer – from its golden temples to vibrant and varied floating markets, not to mention the tastes and aromas of Thai dishes, the number of which are only matched by the number of street vendors – head out into the country to experience life at an elephant sanctuary and discover the unique bond that forms between beast and man. Then top it all off with serious rest and relaxation on the stunning white-sand beaches and rocky bays of gorgeous Phuket.

Day 1 to 3 - Arrive Bangkok

Upon arrival at the airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Thailand's capital, Bangkok, a crazy and chaotic city! Known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon pronounced or Krung Thep "city of angels" for short, Bangkok was a small trading post at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Bangkok is now the gateway to South East Asia for most travellers and international backpackers come and go and the streets are always buzzing and full of life.

Day 1-After arriving in Bangkok you will be transferred to your hotel and you could enjoy an evening dinnercruise to offer a fabulous introduction to the sights and smells of this bustling city.

Day 2-Your first full day in Bangkok begins with a visit to the Royal Palace, and the magnificent temples of the Golden Buddha and Emerald Buddha. Follow this up with a cruise down the Chao Phraya River that dissects the city and explore the complex labyrinth of klongs, or canals that branch off the river. You will also visit Wat Arun, Bangkok’s oldest temple and richly decorated with Chinese porcelain.

Day 3-Today it’s all about the food, and in a country that is deservedly famous for its rich and varied cuisine,you will love this opportunity to learn how to make some great local dishes. And the best part of a day spent learning to make sumptuous meals is that you will get to enjoy the finished product at the end.

Day 4 to 7 - Bangkok – Khao Sok

Day 4-This morning you will take an early flight to Surat Thani. Your day will begin with a scenic drive to get a taste of rural life in southern Thailand followed by a boat ride on the many waterways where you will see a host of regional birdlife. Following the coast you will board a traditional Burmese junk for a fabulous feast of local dishes. You will then have the rest of the afternoon to laze on the beach. Later that afternoon you will bid farewell to the coast and head off to the ‘Elephant Hills’ in Khao Sok, which will be your base for the next few days.

Day 5-Early the next day you will be transferred to an elephant camp. Here you will be able to witness these sturdy beasts at work and play, as well as learn more about the role the play in Thailand’s agricultural sector. After meeting several elephants and their handlers, known as ‘mahouts’, you will have the option to either stay put and learn more about this interesting relationship between man and beast, or instead go for an elephant ride into the tree-covered limestone hills. Following lunch you will have a canoe ride down the Sok River that snakes through the jungle.

Days 6-7 -Today you will be in exploratory mode. Boarding a local boat you will be taken out to a beautiful nearby lake that is well off the map of many travellers in the region. Surrounded by the limestone cliffs, over 100 islands are scattered across this stunning lake. After a day spent relaxing at the lake you will return to your camp for dinner.

Day 8 to 10 - Khao Sok – Krabi

Begin today with breakfast and get ready for a walk into the jungle to get even more up close with the wonderfully diverse residents of this area. Learn about the many different flora as well as birds, gibbons and monkeys. If the weather permits, lunch will be cooked a traditional way in bamboo, a method that has been used in the area centuries. This afternoon you will leave the jungle and make for the stunning beach paradise of Krabi.

The next four days are yours to fill with lots of activities that are available. From sunning lazily on the many beautiful beaches to active water sports, there is something here to keep everyone entertained for months. For those who want to venture inland from the beach there is plenty of options available. Highlights include the isolated beach of Ko Phi Phi Lee, the setting for the film ‘The Beach’.

Day 11 to 11 - Krabi – Bangkok

Today you will be transferred to the airport where you will return to Bangkok. Once back in the capital you will have the rest of the day to pick up any souvenirs that you missed the first time around, or catch up on some more sightseeing.

Day 12 to 12 - Depart Bangkok

As part of this example itinerary you will be transferred to the airport to catch any onward flights.
